Volunteer at the Scholastic Book Fair

Hey all – it’s that time again!

The Scholastic Book Fair is right around the corner, November 13-21st! We NEED your help to make this event successful! If you are interested in helping out during the Book Fair, please sign up for a time slot(s) by clicking HERE!

The students LOVE the Scholastic Book Fair and proceeds from this event help provide great titles for our Stillwater Library and individual classrooms! Thank you in advance! Get a head start on your Christmas shopping at the Book Fair!

Did I mention that for every shift you volunteer, you get entered into a drawing for FREE BOOKS?!?!?  So, go to the sign up site http://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050e4fa8a92ea64-scholastic1 to see what shifts are available.

Congratulations 5th Grade Library Helpers!

Over the last two weeks, interested 5th grade students “applied” for the position of Library Aide during their class time.  These jobs are very important, as they involve helping circulate the materials, keeping our library neat and clean, and helping adults and students find books.

Congratulations to Erin, Angie, Zoe, Addison, Tyler, Emma, Kassie, Valeria and Natalie!

Thank you to ALL of the students who applied!

Importance of Reading Aloud to your Older Kids

If you have time, take a look at this short article.  It shares information about the importance of reading aloud to your older kids.  http://www.readbrightly.com/importance-of-reading-aloud-to-big-kids/

If you’re wondering “What books should I read to my older kids?” …  well, check this page out and scroll down and take a look at the lower right section of the page. Book Lists! http://www.readbrightly.com/great-read-aloud-books-older-kids/  While I have not read all of these, I can tell you that “The Iliad” is a challenging and exciting classic… and “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane” is pretty darn awesome.

And for my adventure-loving families out there, if you like escape rooms and breakout games, try reading “Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library” with your kiddos. Its fun.

Happy Reading,

M
