The Scholastic Book Fair at Stillwater is right around the corner November 15-22. We still need some awesome volunteers to fill in some of the time slots. This is a fun and easy way to volunteer for your school! Please click this link to volunteer!

No experience necessary. We will provide training and snacks. 🙂

The afternoon shifts are the area of biggest need. Even if you can come in for 30 minutes, please sign up and let us know. Every little bit helps.  Thank you!

**NEW THIS YEAR, any volunteer who fills two shifts will be entered into a raffle for 2 free books from the Book Fair!

3-5 Research Unit: Introduction & Permission

We are about to embark on a library learning adventure! Oh, the places we will go! oh-the-places-youll-go

This week, the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades students will begin a large library research unit focusing on the Big 6! research steps, library resource skills, and technology integration. This research project will culminate with your student (co)authoring a short, non-fiction book.

The project will start on October 17th and end right before the winter break. Because all of the work will happen during the library sessions (yea, no homework!), your student’s time for checkout will be limited. Please help remind students that the library is open daily during lunch recess for reading, writing, drawing, and checkouts.

You are invited to participate in the unit by volunteering in the library during your student’s library sessions. Another way you can help is to talk to your student daily and share your enthusiasm about learning. Ask what he/she has learned, have discussions about interesting facts, and even continue the research at home or at the public library.

Join us in our celebration of learning during your student’s library class December 12 – 14.  At that time, you can enjoy the books produced by our amazing researchers!

Finally, the library would like permission to publish your student’s book in a special-collections section of our LRC.  Is this okay with you? Please complete and return the portion below, and continue to monitor the library blog for updates on all of the library’s activities.

Please let me know if you have questions, would like your student’s library session schedule or would like to volunteer in the library with this unit of study.

PS a Hard-Copy of this blog post will go out via kid mail, and an electronic version will go out via Constant Contacts. Please complete and return the permission portion so your student’s work can be printed.  Thank you!
